Reporting directly to the Vice President for Alumni Relations, the Associate Director for CAA Marketing and Digital Initiatives is responsible for the oversight of content, messaging, and creative direction for CAA materials, brand, and voice across all channels. The Associate Director leads cross-functional teams to contribute to strategic growth and integration with other departments and alumni communities, and oversees creative direction and marketing strategies across the CAA across multiple integrated digital channels.
The Associate Director works closely with other Alumni and Development departments as a leader in best practices, strategic developments, campaign-based marketing, and advancement of the CAA's digital communications and communities.
Works with the Vice President to maintain an ongoing assessment, management, and improvement of key CAA digital channels and platforms, including overseeing a content calendar, recommendations for adopting new or emerging technologies; messaging direction, application of data to create effective and targeted outreach.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Oversees content strategy and output for CAA social media and online channels; collaborates with University partners to create and execute an integrated social media strategy. - Manages the Content Marketing to execute written, graphic, and strategically packaged content across CAA's channels and cross-department initiatives. - Serves as a creator and leader of best practices for alumni groups and internal partners, especially around social media and online engagement, user experience, creative assets, and online management; oversees regular updates and improvements to the CAA website and other platforms; acts as an expert to facilitate creation and maintenance of alumni group web communities. - Oversees the CAA's email marketing to ensure news, invitations, and initiatives are packaged and delivered effectively through emails and integrated cross-channel campaigns including outreach plans that includes collected assets e.g. articles, short videos, podcasts, and other related media that helps increase alumni-generated content and engagement. - Develops digital strategies and tactics based upon meaningful analytics and data-driven insight. - Leads the CAA's efforts in collaborative partnerships for online initiatives such as Columbia Giving Day; oversees the creation of collateral materials for the Office of Alumni Relations such as surveys, flyers, marketing materials, and other items. Assists with other alumni outreach and services projects as needed; performs other duties and special projects as assigned
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required, including a minimum of three (3) years' related experience.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Experience writing and editing online communications materials. Must be a social media 'native' with facility in managing an institution or brand presence across multiple channels; strong understanding and implementation of social media strategies. Demonstrated ability to work in a high pressure, fast-paced environment. Demonstrated excellence in a variety of competencies including: project management, teamwork, analytical thinking and client/customer awareness.
Must possess the ability to work with changing priorities and multiple projects. Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including a high level of attention to detail and active listening skills. Ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot, in addition to working independently in a dynamic team environment. Demonstrated ability to effectively partner with a diverse group of administrators and academic leaders. Must be able to negotiate issues, resolve problems and have strong influencing skills.
The successful candidate must be a strategic thinker, effective in moving strategic agendas, politically savvy, ensure the utmost discretion in all matters, as well as possess an ability to work well with all levels of management, both internally and externally, be flexible in nature, have a sound judgment with a collaborative style that fosters teamwork and cooperation beyond the immediate team to the broader organization. Must have a passion for excellent customer service and commitment to exceptional quality.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience working with and a strong familiarity of Content Management Systems (CMS) such as WordPress or Drupal; HTML (in-line style) familiarity, understanding of PC hardware, software, database functionality, and Internet protocols preferred.
Previous experience with volunteer management, alumni committees and knowledge of information architecture and user experience is a plus.
