About the Department:
The Visual Marketing Coordinator (VMC) for The Marketing Unit of Student Centers is a 25-hour per week position within the Office of Student Centers, housed under the Division of Auxiliary Enterprises at George Mason University.
The VMC is responsible for working on a variety of marketing and communication projects, which serve the needs of the Office of Student Centers. As a member of the Student Centers team, the VMC reports to the Manager, Communications and Marketing and works collaboratively with other team members. The VMC is expected to become familiar with the university's branding guidelines and work within them.
To serve as the Student Centers Graphic Designer creating vibrant art and content to promote SC services, programs, and resources; and to help SC improve and outreach its brand image within and external to the Mason community;
To serve as the Student Centers public relations representative by attending and supporting specific university events to engage with prospective students and their families about the services, programs, and resources offered by Student Centers to Mason students—these events include but are not limited to Admission Open Houses, Green and Gold Showcase, Orientation, and Family Weekend;
To assist the Marketing and Communications Manager to regularly post content on the Student Centers social media outlets to engage with students, faculty, and staff about news and information, programs, services, and resources offered by Student Centers and its tenants; and
To assist the Marketing and Communications Manager with various marketing projects such as website content updates, blogging, print media and publications, and digital media.
Bachelor's degree, preferably in the areas of graphic design, web, and multimedia technologies; or equivalent combination of education and experience;
Keen design sense as evidenced by an established portfolio of digital and print projects;
Working knowledge of social media, and experience with, or willingness to learn, analytics and SEO;
Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.); and
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Familiarity with the Macintosh environment;
Ability to manage projects from concept to completion, and work with university personnel to assess requirements, generate ideas, and offer periodic updates through the life of the project;
Ability to adapt and adhere to strict brand standards; and
Ability to work with others in a collaborative environment and, at the same time, to work independently and take initiative.
Pay rate: $15 an hour for up to 25 hours a week, Monday through Friday. Occasional nights and weekends.
Salary: $15.00 per hour for up to 25 hours per week
