The School of Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for an Associate Director, Marketing.
The Associate Director, Marketing for UW Medicine Strategic Marketing & Communications is a client service-oriented marketing professional who leads marketing strategy and analytics for UW Medicine's hospitals and service lines. This position reports to the Senior Director of Marketing & Digital Strategy for UW Medicine and will assume a significant leadership role in the department, managing and mentoring the work of the marketing managers, project managers, and the events and sponsorship team. S/he will offer strategic input on achieving the mission and vision of Strategic Marketing & Communications.
The Associate Director, Marketing is responsible for developing innovative and integrated brand and marketing communication strategies across all target market touchpoints. S/he is accountable for setting campaign priorities, budgets and development of strategic plans for advertising and marketing initiatives on quarterly and yearly cadences. S/he will be integrally involved in the strategic direction of Strategic Marketing & Communications, providing leadership in defining and executing programs that generate quantifiable results for the UW Medicine brand and its patient care service lines. S/he will also provide leadership in joint marketing initiatives with the Boeing and HCA UW Medicine Accountable Care Networks (ACN) and SCCA.
With direction from Marketing & Communications leadership and in partnership with the creative team, the Associate Director, Marketing defines the brand narrative, marketing goals and objectives, target audiences and segmentations, and messaging and tone for campaigns. S/he uses in-depth business knowledge and diverse quantitative and qualitative research methodologies to lead strategic planning efforts. S/he oversees plan implementation and ensures continued plan adherence.
This role requires a strong background in content marketing, integrated marketing, communications, brand, and collaboration with creative and business teams to connect marketing strategies and creative executions that fulfill the organization's business goals. S/he is a collaborative, progressive thinker skilled at developing customer-centric communications.
As manager of a team of 5 direct reports, s/he has responsibility for improving organizational effectiveness and developing policies and processes. S/he also will play a role in developing relationships with the ACNs and SCCA and in improving the marketing effectiveness of joint plans.
Marketing Strategy and Planning: Develop deep understanding of our internal clients' business goals and competitive landscapes to generate fresh ideas as well as learn how to leverage marketing channels to achieve desired outcomes. Analyze channel and consumer response data to identify trends and opportunities that drive marketing program recommendations and results. Strategize with clients on developing integrated marketing solutions to achieve their goals. Map out content strategies that support and extend marketing initiatives. Develop case studies and reports on campaign outcomes. Utilize analytics to leverage and maximize budgets. Participate in the strategic development of the Strategic Marketing & Communications Department, setting goals, standards, measuring results, and attributing them to the overall success of UW Medicine's patient care service lines and brand.
Leadership and Influence: Lead team of marketing professionals including marketing managers, project managers, and events and sponsorship managers on development of integrated marketing strategies with content and digital marketing emphases, plans, case studies and outcome reports. Provide thought leadership and define best practices which contribute to the success of the team and the organization. Actively manage cross-divisional alignment. Facilitate strategic work sessions with leadership, business, and creative partners to unlock a holistic vision. Manage the annual budgeting process for strategic service line marketing plans. Provide input on long term departmental financial strategy. Create departmental policies and procedures, and implement corrective action in regards to deviation from departmental/programmatic strategic goals. S/he will be responsible for marketing campaigns that meet service line business goals. These campaigns will have a direct impact on revenue generation for the service lines. S/he will be responsible for developing campaign strategies that resonate with the targeted consumer base and bring them into our healthcare system.
Project Management: Work smart by setting effective work goals, establishing priorities, and planning well in order to produce quality work. Execute effectively by using resources efficiently, meeting deadlines, and keeping others informed of work plans and progress toward goals. Set scopes, objectives, resources, budgets, and timelines. Consolidate information from various sources including feedback from others.
Change Management: Identify and act upon opportunities to improve and expand marketing at UW Medicine. Involve and influence others in the accomplishment of worthwhile organizational goals. Challenge the status quo, champion change and influence others to change. Use business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound judgement in the solution of problems or pursuit of opportunities. Maintain flexible viewpoints and positions that can change as additional information becomes available.
Supervise a team of 5 people including marketing managers, project managers and events and sponsorship managers.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree plus 5 years in marketing, communications, advertising, sociology, business or related discipline.

Excellent presentation and public speaking skills, with an exceptional ability to communicate complicated concepts simply and clearly
Proven experience in integrated, story-based marketing campaigns across multiple media channels with the ability to demonstrate impact on business goals and the brand
Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills and the ability to translate research into actionable insights
Must be able to analyze data, identify trends and make data-driven decisions
Strong time management and organizational skills, ability to cope with pressure, tight deadlines and multiple projects simultaneously
Prior experience in content marketing, digital marketing, CRM, email marketing, database marketing, analytics and consumer segmentation, consumer insights, multi-channel marketing, SEO, social, and client relationship building
Experience negotiating with outside vendors, including negotiating contracts, prices, resolving service issues and reconciling differences
Can write concise and clear creative briefs that allow the creative team to build effective and well-targeted campaign creative
Software skills desired: Exact Target, Marketo, Google AdWords, Google Analytics, Drupal, Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint and Excel wiz!)
DESIRED QUALIFICATION Master's Degree plus 3 years in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Sociology, Business or related.
